Ananuri  [Georgia, 2004]
The 17th century church-fortress of Ananuri guards the Georgian Military Highway an hour north of the capital, Tbilisi.
The highway continues over the spectacular, 5000-metre-high Caucasus Mountains to Russia, but proximity to Chechnya means the border is closed to foreigners.
