Whanganui National Park [New Zealand, 2000]
The "Bridge to Nowhere" is a
single-arch concrete bridge more than 40m long over the remote Mangapurua
Stream in Whanganui National Park. It was built in 1935 to give settlers
access to the Mangapurua Valley, which was abandoned in 1942. Now
the bridge is stranded deep in the bush, accessible only by jet boat or
kayak followed by a 45-minute walk. |
